Integrated Marketing Communications Minor

Cal Poly’s Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) minor is a carefully-crafted blend of journalism, graphic communication, and marketing courses.

Students will learn to acquire and leverage customer insights; to create and deploy visual, graphic, and written content across traditional and digital media channels; and to analyze the impact. Graduates with these skills are in demand for positions in social media, content marketing, digital marketing, and brand storytelling. The opportunities and job titles are many and growing!

Review the courses required in the IMC minor via the Cal Poly Catalog.

Frequently Asked Questions

I don’t have a 3.0 g.p.a. but I am close.  Can I still get in?
Sorry, the 3.0 is firm.  If you think you will reach 3.0 in time to complete the minor if accepted you can send in the email and we can add you to a secondary list.

Can I still take classes in the IMC?
Most of the courses are open to any student with the prerequisites. However, taking the classes does not increase your likelihood of acceptance.

What happens after I am accepted?
After you finish your celebration from being selected as a member of the greatest minor at Cal Poly, you can complete the IMC form sent to you, bring it to the marketing office (03-403) and we will move it along to the register’s office. It can take a number of weeks to appear on your records.

Check the flow chart below.  Many classes can be taken concurrently.  However, for BUS 453 you do need most of the other classes and this class is required before the final course.

When are the classes offered?
We try to offer each class at least twice a year. The best plan for you is to start taking them early.

Should I take the journalism, marketing or GRC capstone class?
You can take any of them; however, it may be useful to take one outside your own field to increase your exposure to other disciplines and students.
