Career Readiness Center
The Orfalea College of Business Career Readiness Center provides students with comprehensive support and opportunities to be career-ready graduates. The Career Readiness Center prepares students to network with employers and land a successful internship or full-time position. We provide the following resources to help you get internships and jobs:
- One-on-one Career Advising: Meet with Mallory Stoffel or a Career Peer Advisor to get tailored help with any career-related question.
- Career Mentoring: Get paired with a Cal Poly alumni in an industry or profession that you’re interested in learning more about.
- Concentration Panels: Hear from OCOB upperclassmen about their concentration to help make educated decisions about the concentration right for you.
- Career Workshops: Learn about specific career topics in interactive workshops and panels.
Our mission is to empower Orfalea College of Business students to develop the career readiness skills they need to succeed in college and their careers by providing opportunities to build meaningful connections and engage in immersive experiences.
The Career Readiness Center envisions that each Orfalea College of Business student:
- Understands their own unique story, strengths, values and interests;
- Feels empowered to make career decisions that align with their own values and strengths;
- Possess the necessary career readiness skills to successfully navigate the recruitment process and the transition to full-time employment
CAREER PEER ADVISING
Career Peer Advisors support career readiness initiatives and college-wide career programming in the Orfalea College of Business by connecting students to the right resources, assisting them on professional development, and guiding them through the career planning process. By providing one-on-one career advising and mentorship, this dynamic team of student leaders helps instill confidence in fellow students so they can successfully land competitive internships and job opportunities.

The Orfalea College of Business Career Coaching Program aims to provide career-related support to Orfalea students who are interested in developing skills to launch career exploration and enhance career-readiness.
Through a student-alumni mentoring partnership, Orfalea students are able to foster connections with industries of interest, strengthen career-readiness skills, and build professional strategies in order to become competitive candidates for in-demand internship and job opportunities in specific fields of interest.
Alumni Career Coaches:
Ranging from Business Administration, Economics, and Industrial Technology alumni, Orfalea’s Career Coaches possess a passion and care for giving back to the Orfalea College of Business. Career Coaches utilize this opportunity to contribute to the lives of current students by helping them engage in professional experiences, determine their career goals, and assist them in beginning to charter their trajectory to career success.
Mentors currently serve in a variety of positions across diverse and widespread business sectors, including companies such as Oracle, Apple, Armanino, PwC, Cisco Systems, Adobe, MindBody, Texas Instruments, Glassdoor, and Deloitte.
We have two types of Career Coaches in this program: Executive Partner (10+ years of experience) and Young Alumni (1-10 years experience). Students can select the type of career coach they prefer, based on their own interests and goals within the program.
- Complete a minimum of one session per month with each mentee
- Mentoring sessions range from 30 minutes to 1 hour, and can he held via phone, Skype/Facetime/Zoom, or in person. If meeting remotely, we highly encourage video conferencing to build your relationship.
