Career Peer Advising


Pay: $12.00 / hour

Mission Statement:

Career Peer Advisors support career readiness initiatives in the Orfalea College of Business by creating a foundation for future business leaders to connect with resources and build empowering relationships earlier in the college experience. By providing one-on-one career advising and mentorship, this dynamic team of student leaders helps instill confidence in fellow students and prepare them for a successful transition into the workplace.

Important Dates:

  • Information Sessions – January 29th:
    • Tuesday, Jan. 29th | 11:00 am -12:00 pm | 03-111
    • Tuesday, Jan. 29th | 3:00 pm -4:00 pm | 03-207
    •  Wednesday, Feb. 6th | 11:00 am – 12:00 pm | 03-207
  • Applications: Closes February 18th
  • Training: Spring Quarter Dates & Times TBD
  • Job Role: September 16th, 2019 – June 5th, 2020, with the opportunity to extend position to following academic year

Requirements:

  • Applicants must:
    • have a minimum 3.0 GPA
    • be an incoming Junior or Senior  in Orfalea College of Business
    • commit to working approximately 10 hours/week
    • not be employed in another paid Orfalea Student Services Leadership Position

Roles and Responsibilities:

As a part of the Career Readiness team, your duties may include:

  • Provide one-on-one resume and cover letter guidance and review
  • Assist students in preparing for interviews and career fairs
  • Front desk greeting, assisting students signing in, and scheduling appointments
  • Coordinate and participate in internship, concentration panels, and other career events
  • Develop and implement marketing material for Career Readiness events and programs
  • Create concentration specific internship/career emails monthly using MustangJOBS
  • Attend weekly staff meetings

    • Past or upcoming internship experience and campus involvement
