The accounting minor is comprised of 28 units of accounting classes ranging from introductory financial accounting to the federal taxation of individuals. The minor is offered by Cal Poly’s Accounting Area, a regional leader in preparing superior accounting graduates. Faculty build curriculum with industry in mind to give students a thorough knowledge of accounting and tax laws along with the confidence to use those skills in advising businesses towards financial success. The minor is open to those outside of the business administration and economics majors.

The Orfalea College of Business’ economics minor empowers our students to integrate quantitative analysis, statistical modeling, and sound economic theory in addressing industry and public policy’s most engaging problems. The curriculum supports those studying business administration, engineering, agriculture or political science by sharpening business acumen and technological skills to make strategic decisions. The economics minor includes the economics major’s core courses, giving students a strong foundation in business in a variety of careers.

Cal Poly’s new entrepreneurship minor, open to students from all colleges, will allow you to develop the entrepreneurial mindset and skill set necessary for success in today’s economy. The program is a carefully chosen selection of courses from across the campus leading to a balanced and interdisciplinary approach. As a student in this minor, you will acquire the tools, develop the skills, and cultivate the mindset of an entrepreneur so that you may create economic and social value in any discipline. The minor is designed with a limited number of prerequisites for courses in order to enable all students to apply. There are three required courses comprising a total of 12 units, and then students may choose from a variety of electives in their college and GEs to gain the additional 12 units necessary.

Cal Poly’s minor in industrial technology offers a broad choice of courses in technology, design, operations and supply chain offered through the Orfalea College of Business. These courses provide supplemental knowledge and skills for nontechnical majors who wish to excel in a position related to operations.

This interdisciplinary minor program of study is coordinated by the Industrial Technology and Packaging Area in the Orfalea College of Business. The curriculum focuses on hands-on projects in packaging fundamentals, materials processing, prototyping and performance testing. The minor supports a variety of careers, including food science, graphic design, marketing and engineering. The packaging minor is open to all Cal Poly students.

Cal Poly’s integrated marketing communications (IMC) minor is a carefully-crafted blend of journalism, graphic communication, and marketing courses. Students will learn to acquire and leverage customer insights; to create and deploy visual, graphic, and written content across traditional and digital media channels; and to analyze the impact. Graduates with these skills are in demand for positions in social media, content marketing, digital marketing, and brand storytelling. The opportunities and job titles are many and growing!

The Orfalea College of Business offers a Sales Minor consisting of three required and four elective classes, the minor will help students:
