Orfalea College of Business Student Council Description

Vision Statement 
BUS Council helps to develop a holistic understanding of student engagement across the Orfalea College of Business, encourages partnerships and collaboration between clubs and student leader organizations, and provides a student voice for ASI, OCOB Student Services, and the Dean’s Office.

Applicants must be able to commit to this position for a full year and must be an Orfalea College of Business student. All majors & concentrations are welcome to apply. Applicants must be an incoming Sophomore, Junior or Senior. Must commit to dedicating approximately 2-3 hours/week on outreach, communications, planning, and attending bi-monthly meetings.

Roles and Responsibilities
There are three board positions opening for the 2019-2020 year. Responsibilities of each position are as follows:


  • Creates bi-monthly agenda and leads meetings in partnership with board members
  • Connects with outside organizations and departments to book speakers
  • Organizes the quarterly schedule and assists with recruitment
  • Works directly with BUS Council Advisor on initiatives and event planning
  • Previous leadership experience in a club preferred

VP of Finance & Operations

  • Handles financial paperwork and manages budget for meetings and events
  • Takes meeting notes and sends out regular communications with BUS Council Reps
  • Collects weekly updates, sends meeting remembers and follow up emails

VP of Diversity Initiatives

  • Leads discussions around diversity and inclusion efforts and events on campus
  • Attends the Dean’s Diversity & Inclusion board meetings and gives updates
  • Schedules speakers, leads discussions, and organizes activities for clubs and organizations around diversity that can be shared with other members


  • Passionate about the BUS Council vision to connect clubs, student leaders, staff, and faculty within the Orfalea College of Business
  • Active member of a club (Orfalea or elsewhere on campus)
  • Collaborate as a board and BUS Council Advisor on different ideas and initiatives
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Exhibit professionalism and strong leadership
  • Assist with and attend events sponsored by BUS Council
  • Attend all BUS Council Meetings
  • Participate in weekly board meeting
