In spring 2015, the Orfalea College of Business awarded scholarships to 15 outstanding students to support their education at Cal Poly. Scholarships help ensure that the brightest students have the resources to fully participate in all of the Industrial Technology and Packaging Area’s Learn by Doing opportunities.

Bill Zito Scholarship Awarded to Two Orfalea College Students
Orfalea College seniors Paul Marchetti and Katherine Worland were each honored with a Bill Zito Scholarship from the PMMI Education & Training Foundation. The $750 award recognizes their academic achievements and dedication to advancing their future careers in the packaging industry. To qualify, Paul and Katherine were required to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in packaging professions, maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher, indicate involvement in extracurricular activities, and receive a recommendation from a faculty member within the packaging program.

Cal Poly to Host IAPRI World Packaging Conference this Summer

In step with the celebration of the Cal Poly Packaging Program’s 25th anniversary, the program has been selected as the host of the 18th International Association of Packaging Research Institutes (IAPRI) Conference from June 17 to June 21, 2012. IAPRI meets annually, either at a symposium or a conference held on alternating years by one of the members of the association. The symposia are set up exclusively for IAPRI members, but the conferences are open to participation from key players in the packaging industry as well. Research areas covered at the Cal Poly conference will include: packaging materials and container; packaging for food and agriculture; distribution packaging; medical, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical packaging; testing and standards; innovations and development, sustainability, active and intelligent packaging; hazardous and dangerous goods; and design, printing, and graphics.
Experts in the field in academia and industry will offer more than 200 presentations on the aforementioned topics, in addition to several keynote lectures. The Cal Poly Packaging Program will also work with Wiley’s Journal of Packaging Technology and Science to manage a peer-review track for full-length paper submissions at the conference. This will provide authors of manuscripts about the packaging industry the chance to be published in a special edition of the journal.
Approximately 500 attendees from more than 30 countries will gather for this educational event and networking opportunity.
