Cal Poly’s Financial Management Association (FMA) hosted its first ever career fair on Oct. 14, 2015. The event gathered students from the Orfalea College of Business with 20 recruiting companies, including Wells Fargo, Adobe, Yahoo and the Big Four accounting firms. The career fair allowed for general networking for students of all ages and interviews with internship or full-time candidates.
Futures in Finance Day featured a keynote address from former Apple CFO and Cal Poly Foundation Board Vice Chairman Peter Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer talked about his career path in finance after college and lesson he learned from different industries. He also answered questions from students on topics ranging from the value of an MBA, to how to find a professional mentor, to leadership styles at Apple.
“It’s always a lot of fun to come back to campus and interact with the students,” Oppenheimer, a Cal Poly agribusiness alumnus, said after the event. “They are all so energetic and are really smart. They keep you on your toes.”
This industry-specific career fair is the latest of several tailored recruiting events designed to foster career readiness, one of the Orfalea College of Business’ biggest student initiatives. Business students also have access to career fairs for accounting and marketing, as well as startup companies.
