Two Orfalea College of Business alumni have launched Z Living Systems, a startup that builds living walls in urban landscapes. Robert Zacks (B.S., Entrepreneurship, 2010) and Jasmine McDermott (B.S., Entrepreneurship, 2013) founded the business in 2013 through Cal Poly’s Center For Innovation & Entrepreneurship and its resources in the HotHouse. Inspired by living walls in Europe, the team aims to start a movement to reincorporate nature back into cities.
“With most startups, you usually think technology,” said Zacks in an interview with the San Luis Obispo Tribune. “But for me, my passion is about the environment and entrepreneurship, and ever since I moved to SLO, I’ve wanted to increase awareness of environmental issues.”
Learn about the startup’s successful installations in Los Angeles and its plans to bring living walls to the Central Coast in the recent Tribune article.
