More than 250 Orfalea College of Business supporters gathered in January in San Francisco to reconnect and celebrate the achievements of outstanding alumni. Each year, the Spotlight Alumni Awards honor the professional and social achievements of two recipients, who exemplify the important work that Orfalea graduates are doing to engage and empower the business community through their ethical leadership, philanthropy, innovation, Learn by Doing mindsets, and more.
Gold Award Winner
Chuck Templeton — Managing Director, S2G Ventures
This year, the Gold Award was presented to Chuck Templeton, the founder and former CEO of OpenTable, a long-time entrepreneur with a deep passion for helping early-stage and emerging entrepreneurs and companies. Inspired by the promise of building a better future through entrepreneurship, Templeton is an investment committee member at Impact Engine, a Chicago-based social and environmental impact investment fund, and serves on the boards of several other Internet start-ups. He’s also the managing director of S2G Ventures (Seed to Growth), an investment fund focused on healthy food and sustainable agriculture.
Green Award Winner
Scott Edwards — Founder and CEO, Drop Water
The Green Award went to Drop Water founder and CEO Scott Edwards, who transformed his Cal Poly senior project into a company that produces 100-percent compostable water bottles. Beyond their shared Cal Poly experiences, the arc that connects these two alumni seems to be their dedication to using business as a vehicle for tackling some of the world’s largest sustainability problems.
