Industrial Technology & Packaging

The Industrial Technology & Packaging (ITP) program provides students with strong foundations in liberal arts, business and management, paired with hands-on skills that require work with sophisticated equipment and machines.

Industrial technology students learn how to maximize productivity, profitability and safety while packaging students learn to create cost-effective, functional and sustainable packages.

Coursework and Faculty

Students in this program will learn about supply chain and packaging systems, product design and development, packaging sustainability, marketing and more.

ITP faculty have garnered strong national and international reputations, and they have published extensively in the field. Their mentorship has led to numerous prestigious student awards, and their industry experience includes work in the automotive, steel, pharmaceutical, food and graphics fields.

Career Outlook

Graduates from the technology program are called industrial technologists, and career options include plant managers, industrial designers, technology analysts and other positions related to productivity. As industries increasingly rely on technology and automation, tech-savvy problem-solvers will remain in high demand.

Meanwhile, as governments in California and beyond seek to promote environmentally-friendly sustainable packaging, packaging innovation will be in demand. Packaging experts work in almost any industry because most manufactured products need one or more kinds of packaging, making it a multi-billion-dollar industry. Because there aren’t many packaging programs, job placement for packaging graduates is very high.
