Multicultural Business Program

The Multicultural Business Program (MBP) is a diverse, inclusive, and multicultural community led by students for students where they matter, belong, and with professional support are connected with resources to persist to graduation and beyond.

Vision

MBP envisions an Orfalea experience where all students are prepared for personal, academic, and professional success in a diverse and multicultural world.

Mission

MBP seeks to increase the enrollment, retention, and graduation of traditionally underserved, historically underrepresented and marginalized students in higher education and business.

Resources

MBP Center

The MBP Center is open throughout the school year. This is a community space in Building 3 Room 106 for students to socialize or study during their day. Free snacks, free scantrons, and free printing are all provided in the center to any student in OCOB.

The MBP Center is open Monday – Thursday from 9 AM – 5 PM.

MBP Fellowship

The MBP Fellowship is designed for students to receive support services, resources, and opportunities throughout their journey at Cal Poly. Students are chosen from a competitive applicant pool during the summer prior to their first fall quarter at Cal Poly. MBP Fellows join a cohort of students during their first fall quarter at Cal Poly where they receive support from their first day on campus through graduation.

MBP Specific Courses

MBP offers program-specific courses for BUS 100, ES 112, and BUS 206.

Events

MBP Conference

The Matter Belong Persist Conference (previously known as Leadership Beyond the Resume) is a one-day conference held by the Multicultural Business Program in winter quarter that focuses on preparing emerging leaders from historically underrepresented backgrounds for the opportunities and challenges that they will face in their careers.

Industry Tours

MBP organizes field trips for students to network with industry professionals and get first-hand knowledge about the day-to-day responsibilities.

Lunch Breaks

Lunch Breaks are social networking events for students in Multicultural Business Program to build community with peers and professionals over lunch. They are an opportunity for employers to establish rapport and cultivate recruiting relationships with students from diverse backgrounds particularly those who are underrepresented in business and professional services.

Inclusion & Diversity (ID) Week

Orfalea College of Business Inclusion and Diversity (ID) Week is a series of events led by students for students that emphasize and celebrate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I). Everyone is encouraged to participate, learn, and develop capabilities for inclusive leadership. ID Week moves people from conversation to action, and ends with our Leadership Beyond the Resume Summit.
