Marketing Lecturer

Lisa Simon

Professor Lisa Simon, an Orfalea College of Business faculty member since 1996, specializes in qualitative research, especially focus group moderation, and professional sales.

Applying her Certificate of Proficiency in Qualitative Research from the Burke Institute, Prof. Simon consults with local nonprofit organizations and businesses to help them better understand their customers, stakeholders, and services. Combining her teaching expertise with research ability, Prof. Simon trains many others in the skills needed to effectively moderate focus group discussions.

In addition to her wide variety of marketing courses, including Principles of Marketing, International Marketing, and Listening to the Customer, Prof. Simon instructs and coaches the Orfalea College of Business Sales Development Program. Throughout this ten-week training course, students develop sales skills, create a sales plan and portfolio, participate in sales role plays, observe a salesperson in action, critique fellow trainees, and explore selling as a career. Their newly acquired skills prepare them to compete in the Orfalea College of Business Sales Competition. The winner of each quarter’s Orfalea College of Business Sales Competition have the opportunity to compete, all expenses paid, at the National Collegiate Sales Competition in Atlanta, Georgia.

Prof. Simon, honored five times for her teaching excellence, has held a variety of positions in a broad range of industries, including nonprofits, sole proprietorships, and a major corporation. This vast experience allows her to connect academic concepts to real world situations, helping students better understand and appreciate the knowledge they gain in her classes.
