Joe Kuehn

Joe joined the Cal Poly faculty in 2022. He received both a B.S. and Ph.D. in Economics from UCLA. His fields within economics are industrial organization and applied econometrics. His main interests are in how firm competition plays out across interconnected markets.

His work has looked at retail banking markets and the expansion of branch networks, the interplay between auction markets for timber, the effect of Netflix on film studio choices, and how to better design the allocation of H-1B visas in the U.S.

He also has several studies on the NBA that focus on identifying the complementarities between teammates, and how those complementarities can affect player contracts and where players are drafted out of college.
