Georg Zollner

Prof. Dr. Georg Zollner is a Professor of Entrepreneurship and Sustainability Management at Munich University of Applied Sciences in Germany. He is currently spending his research sabbatical as a visiting professor in the Orfalea College of Business. While staying at Cal Poly he will teach two entrepreneurship classes in the 2018 fall term while completing his research.

Georg has a degree in Business Administration from the University of Regensburg. As an exchange student and DAAD scholar he studied one year at the University of Colorado in Boulder. He received his PhD from Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich/. His dissertation was an empirical study on customer loyalty in the banking industry.

After receiving his PhD he gained profound executive business experience in over 15 years as professional manager at OSRAM and SIEMENS. His various management positions included roles as Internal Consultant, M&A Specialist, Head of European SAP R/3 Implementation, Head of Controlling Affiliated Companies, Finance Director United Kingdom as well as Business Unit CFO. His international management responsibilities led to business projects in more than 20 countries on 3 continents. His broad business experience combined with his strong entrepreneurial mindset help him to drive important change projects.

In 2010, Georg decided to return to academia and today he encourages students to think outside the box and to address global challenges with new sustainable business models. His focus is inter alia on implementing new interdisciplinary classes in the field of social entrepreneurship, resource management and real projects with companies. Besides lecturing in Munich, he is frequently engaged with international programs in Belgium, the Netherlands, at the Blue Economy Summer School in Hungry or Australia. Georg holds the position as commissioner for sustainability at Munich University of Applied Sciences.

Georg’s interest in research is closely linked to the field of sustainability and its implementation in the industry as well as in the educational sector. Consistently he works as a consultant for corporations in this area.

Georg brought his son Leopold (15 years) to San Luis Obispo who attends SLO High. His wife Sabine could not join for the whole term and had to return back to Germany after a short visit.
