Jim Burleson is an associate professor of Information Systems in the Orfalea College of Business at California Polytechnic State University. He received his Ph.D. from Clemson University in 2016 and his M.B.A. from Auburn University in 2007. He teaches numerous courses in Information Systems at Cal Poly, including Systems Analysis & Design, User Experience Analysis & Design, and Data Visualization.

Jim spent over two years as an IT consultant, working as a business analyst on projects for a variety of companies across many different industries. His most prominent project involved working on the analysis and design of a multi-million software development project for the City of Houston Municipal Courts.

Jim’s research primarily focuses on the human component of technology adoption and use, particularly the influence of technology on the intersection of individuals’ personal and work lives. His work has been published in outlets such as Journal of the Association for Information Systems, Information & Management, Journal of Information Systems Education, and Communications of the Association for Information Systems.
