Lean Coffee is a great way to get and give help to others in our lean community. Although we still do the occasional Lean Leadership Forum, we are currently experimenting with Lean Coffee as a lean way to get lean folks together. Lean Coffee is a structured, but agenda-less meeting. Participants gather, build an agenda, and begin talking. Conversations are directed and productive because the agenda for the meeting was democratically generated. There are currently dozens of Lean Coffees happening worldwide, including Seattle, San Francisco, Stockholm, Toronto, Boulder, New York City, and more.
The Central Coast Lean Coffee is an open meeting: anyone can attend, including students. It is free. When it is held at Cal Poly, coffee, snacks, and parking are provided. We use the process and format created by Jim Benson and Jeremy Lightsmith. It’s lean and easy:
1. Set up a Personal Kanban
Columns for: OPTIONS → DOING → DONE
2. What to Discuss?
a. Anyone who wants writes what they want to discuss on individual post-it notes and posts them in the OPTIONS column.
b. Each person gets to describe his or her proposed option in 60 seconds or less.
c. We then multi-vote on the options.
4. We talk about the options in order of votes until time or inclination runs out.
Join us to meet lean folks and for valuable discussions about all things lean and lean related. We are building a community of lean practice on the Central Coast.
