Mentor Connection

What is Mentor Connection?

This is a free program provided to Orfalea College of Business students designed to assist their social, personal, and academic acclimation to Cal Poly. As a student who participates in the program, you will be assigned to an upperclassman Business, Economics, or Industrial Technology Peer Mentor who will work with you to meet goals and provide guidance through the quarter. This program is highly recommended for first and second year students.

Peer Mentors can provide:

  • Personalized guidance during the first year of university life.
  • Experience and knowledge about how to be a successful college student.
  • Information about academic resources, co-curricular activities, and the social life at Cal Poly.
  • Information about the different concentrations available in the Orfalea College of Business.

How will I benefit?

Peer Mentors assist Mentor Connection participants with developing strategies for academic success, personal goal setting, study skills, time management, career exploration and knowledge about majors available in the Orfalea College of Business.

How do I sign-up?

Applications for the mentor program are now closed. Applications for mentors will open again in Fall Quarter 2013.

What is the commitment level?

Your weekly meeting date and time will be determined by you and your Peer Mentor. You will agree on a date, time, and location at the beginning of the quarter. During your weekly meetings you will work with your Peer Mentor to establish your goals for the quarter. You will review your quarter class schedule and other commitments. The purpose of these meetings are to get to know your Peer Mentor, to get organized, and to make a game plan for the rest of the quarter.
