Business Student Among Cal Poly Students at United Nations Conference

Rodrigo Rico at the United NationsRodrigo Rico, a business administration major and global politics minor at Cal Poly, joined a group of Cal Poly students for a trip to the United Nations in New York City for an interactive conference in March. Hear from Rodrigo himself on what the experience meant to him:

I went to the United Nations in New York for a week-long conference where I got to network with students from across the globe (countries such as Ethiopia, Denmark, Spain, and France, just to name a few of the nations that were represented). The conference was for the purpose to educate students on how the UN functions and deals with global issues. Delegates learned through a Learn by Doing model.

Students from Cal Poly represented the country of Sudan, and each representative of a country was placed in a committee were resolutions were created to address the committee’s topics. For example, I was placed in the General Assembly committee of humanitarian aid and affairs, and along with other representatives of the African Union we created a coalition to formulate resolutions.

In the end, it was a valuable experience where I got to make friendships with like-minded students across the globe, and learned more about the UN.
