Taryn Stanko Wins David Peach Excellence in Teaching Award

Taryn Stanko with James SenaAssistant professor of management, Taryn Stanko, has been honored with the Dave Peach Excellence in Teaching Award from the Orfalea College of Business. Stanko will receive $5,000 to support her commitment to lead and mentor curriculum development, learning and teaching innovations at Cal Poly.

The award recognizes outstanding teachers or scholarly faculty members in the Management and Human Resources Area. It was established in memory of Professor David Peach by his family. To mirror the legacy Professor Peach left at Cal Poly, the award’s criteria required that its recipient must have a track record indicating an ability to design and manage a meaningful learning environment, inspire students, and foster student learning and student success.

Stanko was selected for this award because of her high quality teaching that embodies the Cal Poly teacher/scholar model. Outside of the classroom, Stanko has also conducted research in many areas including virtual work, organizational control, and the management of work/non-work identities. She has recently co-authored research that focuses on the use of communications technology for work and non-work relationships in the Navy.

Stanko’s research has been published in a variety of journals and is supported by the National Science foundation, the American Association of University Women, and the UC Irvine’s Center for Organizational Research.
