SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly Packaging Program will host the 18th International Association of Packaging Research Institutes (IAPRI) World Packaging Conference on campus June 17-21.
The event coincides with the university Packaging Program’s 25th anniversary.
The five-day conference is expected to attract participants from more than 20 countries. Jay Singh is director of the Cal Poly Packaging Program and chair of the 2012 IAPRI conference. “IAPRI is the world’s leading packaging research organization and is responsible for fostering the exchange of research initiatives by more than 1,000 experts from 80 packaging research institutes,” Singh said. “Hosting IAPRI’s 18th World Conference reconfirms Cal Poly’s presence as a leading North American packaging research institute.”
The conference will include more than 100 presentations by international packaging experts from industry and academia. Michael Okoroafor, vice president of Global Packaging Innovation and Execution at the H.J. Heinz Co., will give a keynote talk on “Global Packaging Trends in the Food and Beverage Industries.”
Amar K. Mohanty, director of the Bioproducts Discovery and Development Centre (BDDC) at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada, will discuss “Plastics and Sustainability: Future of Bioplastics and Biomaterials in the New Green Economy.
James Porter, executive vice president of Rocktenn, will speak on “North American Containerboard Supply to Global Markets and the Important Role for Innovation in Corrugated Packaging Today.”
Master Gunnery Sgt. Kevin D. Smith and Capt. Layke Franklin, U.S. Marine Corps, will present “Packaging and Logistics to Support the War Fighter.”
