The Master of Science in Accounting — Taxation at
the Cal Poly Orfalea College of Business (OCOB) is a one-year
intensive tax program that prepares its graduates for a career
in federal, state or local taxation with a public accounting
firm, industry, or a state or federal governmental tax agency.
The program will provide successful graduates with an understanding
of diverse aspects of multi-state and federal taxation, and
facilitate the graduate's transition to a professional tax
practice. The program also seeks to enhance a graduate's
oral and written communication skills. Each graduate must
complete a 9-quarter unit tax internship during the winter
quarter of the academic year consistent with Cal Poly's educational
philosophy of "learn by doing".

Value of the MSA — Taxation Program
Cal Poly accounting graduates enjoy an excellent reputation in
the accounting profession, industry and government service based
on their performance following graduation. Additionally, the need
of both the American economy and accounting profession for graduates
with expertise in taxation is outpacing the available supply —
thereby providing the Progam's graduates with attractive employment
opportunities.
Cal Poly has highly-motivated students, committed faculty, modern
classroom facilities, the respect of employers, and a hands-on
educational philosophy that enables its MSA — Taxation students
to benefit from a 9-quarter unit "clinical tax experience" during
the winter quarter. Students admitted into the program will be
immersed in a tax curriculum that requires an exceptional work
effort thoughout the year.
Our program is unique for several reasons:
- One-year 45-quarter unit program that includes:

quarter, and
- 9-quarter unit tax internship during the winter quarter.
- Affordability! Our MSA — Taxation program is
significantly less costly than comparable programs offered by
other universities.
- Outstanding professional opportunities in taxation because
California is home to every international and national accounting
firm engaged in federal and multi-state taxation and provides
a window to the Pacific Rim.
- The opportunity to work with committed faculty and students
in a friendly, nurturing, and professional academic environment.
