About

Cal Poly is a nationally ranked, four-year, comprehensive public university located in San Luis Obispo, California. For 14 years in a row it has been named by US News & World Report as the best public, largely undergraduate university in the West. Cal Poly also retained its No. 5 position overall in the magazine's list of the West's best universities, including private institutions, that "provide a full range of undergraduate and master's-level programs but few doctoral programs." The emphasis of the University and its graduate programs is a "learn by doing" educational experience for its 18,000 plus students. Many students seek admission to Cal Poly not only because of its excellent academic reputation, but also because of the unparalleled beauty of the California Central Coast.

The Cal Poly Orfalea College of Business (OCOB) is fully accredited by the AACSB. The OCOB is named after Paul Orfalea, founder of Kinkos. The OCOB is a modern building overlooking Bishops Peak and San Luis Mountain. The building offers over 13,000 square feet of computer lab space and excellent teaching facilities. In 1971 the OCOB offered its first Masters degree. The first MBA was offered in 1975 and the MBA program became accredited in 1979. Our recently reorganized day MBA program continues to offer coursework consistent with Cal Poly's "learn by doing" philosophy, integrative learning, and a new opportunity for international study. This MBA program is a 60 to 64 unit model that provides students who are willing to commit to a rigorous schedule of prescribed courses the option to complete the program in eleven months. A traditional MBA model for those not pursuing the 11-month program and/or simultaneously pursuing dual graduate degrees continues to be offered. The OCOB also offers a one-year intensive Masters of Science in Accounting --Taxation that prepares its graduates for a career in federal, state or local taxation within a public accounting firm, industry, or a state or federal governmental tax agency. The OCOB also offers a Masters of Science in Industrial and Technical Studies, and the curriculum in that graduate program was also recently reorganized to provide students with unique experiences and insights. These changes have put in place three graduate business programs poised to produce the next great wave of business leaders ready to solve business problems in an ethical manner.

Finally, at the Cal Poly OCOB your fellow students will be bright, talented and hard working. Our faculty members are distinguished, passionate about teaching and their research, accessible, dedicated to guiding and mentoring you, and will challenge you day in and day out. Our class sizes are reasonable. Our facilities are also top-notch and our program is reasonably priced in comparison to the competition. And in terms of quality of life, the California Central Coast is one of the best places in the world in which to live, work and study.
