Stern Neill
Dr. Neill is an Associate Professor at the Orfalea College of Business at California Polytechnic State University. Dr. Neill has ten years of experience teaching marketing strategy, management and research. Currently, he specializes in revealing customer insights through exploratory research methods. Professionally, Dr. Neill has eight years of market research experience in the retail and wholesale industries.
Stern’s scholarly interests are in the areas of marketing strategy and firm performance. His research appears in Marketing Letters, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Global Marketing, Industrial Marketing Management, and others. He also has presented research at multiple academic conferences including the American Marketing Association.
A majority of Stern’s scholarly research examines how organizations make sense in uncertain situations and how this understanding shapes strategic behaviors and outcomes. The result has been manuscripts that examine organizational sensemaking, equivocality, strategic complexity, perceptions, and memory. Additionally, his research explores global and entrepreneurial marketing. Spanning several industries including wholesale-distribution, information technology and international trade, he primarily works with small and medium size enterprises. He also conducts field research in the South Pacific.
Stern received his PhD in Business Administration from Louisiana State University. He joined the faculty after eight years at the University of Washington, Tacoma. In the Marketing Area, he teaches an innovative course on exploratory research methods to all marketing students.
