Dr. Metcalf's courses emphasize project-based learning and are
designed to facilitate students' transition into industry.
- International Marketing: This course is enables students to develop an understanding of the way in which culture impacts marketing decision-making. Students learn to use important international information resources, as well as frameworks and tools to evaluate data and to make effective international marketing decisions.
- Global Electronic Marketing: This course is focused on using the Web to connect with and to serve customers. Like the Web, the course evolves in real time.
Research Interests and Experience:
Dr. Metcalf's research interests are focused on Cross-Cultural Negotiation.
Business Experience:
Dr. Metcalf returned to Cal Poly in January 1999 from a three-year professional leave. As Director of University Alliances for Royal Philips Electronics, Dr. Metcalf's role was to build strategic alliances with world-class universities in the US - primarily Stanford, Berkeley, and MIT. Dr. Metcalf's work focused on supporting new business development in Philips. Dr. Metcalf maintains currency in developments in the high-tech sectors of the US economy via consulting assignments.
International Experience:
Dr. Metcalf has taught in France and Finland.
