Andreas Simon

Andreas Simon, PhD, CFA, is a Professor of Accounting at the Orfalea College of Business at California Polytechnic State University. His expertise lies at the intersection of financial statement analysis and equity valuation, and how accounting information is used by sell-side security analysts. His published articles can be viewed in top-ranking tax journals such as, The Journal of Business, Finance & Accounting, The Journal of International Accounting Research, Tax Notes, and The Australian Tax Forum. Dr. Simon’s publications have received national recognition in congressional reports for the U.S House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, and have been listed on Social Science Research Network’s Top Ten download list for Capital Market and Market Efficiency Research. In 2009, 2010, and 2011, he was awarded the Cal Poly State Faculty Support Grant for continued academic research.

Andreas has presented his work at various national and international conferences in Accounting and Finance including the American Accounting Association Meetings, Financial Accounting Research Section Meetings, Western Region American Accounting Association Meetings, Australian and New Zealand Accounting and Finance Association meetings, and Asian Finance Association Meetings. He also conducted seminars at The University of Utah, The University of Michigan, The University of New South Wales (Australia), ESADE Business School (Spain), and Bocconi University (Italy). At Cal Poly, he organizes the accounting research seminar at the Orfalea College of Business.

At the moment, Professor Simon teaches several courses at Cal Poly at the graduate and undergraduate level; including, Financial Statement Analysis and Business Valuation, Financial and Managerial Accounting for MBAs, Introductory- and Intermediate Accounting. Dr. Simon continually receives exceptionally high evaluations from his students, and was awarded the Ernst & Young Outstanding Educator Award in 201.

Dr. Andreas Simon earned his Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia in 2008. He also has a Master’s degree from the University of Applied Sciences in Berlin, Germany, with emphasis in Accounting and Finance. Prior to joining Cal Poly, Dr. Simon received postdoctoral training at the University of Michigan and UC Los Angeles and was a visiting professor at ESADE Business School and UC Irvine. Dr. Simon was a Financial Analyst for Landesbank Holding AG in Germany, where he was responsible for forecasting, valuation, risk and capital markets research and an Associate in assurance and business advisory services, financial services at PriceWaterhouseCoopers in Germany, where he worked in bank financial statement analysis. He is a certified financial analyst in Germany. Andreas is a member of the American Accounting Association, and the Australian and New Zealand Accounting and Finance Association.
