The family of James Huang (Accounting) was one of many happy families celebrating at commencement on Sunday, June 15th. James was the recipient of the Dean’s Award for the college for 2007-08. The Orfalea College of Business had 570 students eligible to graduate this June and the scene was one of jubilation as graduates were commended for their hard work, long hours, and success.
Mike Marlow, professor of economics, received the University’s Distinguished Scholarship Award for 2007-08, the fifth year for the award program. Marlow was honored for his distinguished record of publications in economics and public policy. His research on public education, health economics and other controversial topics combines theory and application to better understand the roles and efficacy of government policies. He was honored at spring commencement ceremonies, June 14 and June 15 respectively, and will be recognized during the university’s Fall Conference General Session on September 15.
Tad Miller, accounting professor, was selected as one of three Distinguished Teachers at Cal Poly for the 2007-08 academic year. Nominations for the award are made by students, with the winners are chosen by faculty colleagues from the Academic Senate, making the honor very significant. Miller will receive a cash stipend and plaque at the formal presentation during Fall Conference and was also honored at June commencement.
Masters program commencement speaker Bill Chillingworth (Business Administration ’78) emphasized that graduates need to ‘write your book with the end in mind’ as they go out and begin the additional chapters of their lives. The 84 graduates at June commencement were reminded by Chillingworth that if they want the final chapter to tell of success, love and career achievements, they need to keep those things always in mind as they write the novels of their lives. Chillingworth is the president and CEO of Circle C Enterprises, Inc.
