Wheelchair GalaWheelchair advisor Lynn Metcalf, marketing professor, congratulates and thanks Sarah Gustafson, event manager, and Adam Eisenberg, auction manager, at the conclusion of the 6th Annual Wheelchair gala.  This year’s team, chaired by Jeremiah Rosenthal, has so far raised over $80,000 to send wheelchairs to Argentina.

SIFE

The Cal Poly Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team won the USA regional competition in Los Angeles and will now prepare for the national competition in Dallas in May.  Congratulations to the students and to faculty advisors Sharon Dobson and Dr. Norm Borin.

T Rex showed up at Google to greet the Orfalea College of Business Student Ambassadors when they were at the company’s Mountain View campus for a tour.  Hosted at Google by Charles Chin (Marketing ’01), the Ambassadors also visited Lockheed Martin and were hosted by Kristen Michallik (Human Resources ’05) and the HP Pavilion, home of the San Jose Sharks, where they were hosted by Ken Caveney (Accounting ’89).

Open House

Alumni were out in force at this year’s Open House, “Explore Cal Poly.”  Casie (Haase) Hill (Accounting ’94) and her husband Travis (CAFES ’93) brought their sons Brent (6) and Dean (4) to get them used to campus life early.

Linda Walker (Human Resources ’77) was a Linda Walkerguest speaker for the Human Resources Management Association on campus in April.  Walker is now the Vice President of Human Resources for Parker Hannifin Corporation in Irvine.  Walker talked about succession planning in organizations, and the importance of planning for the next generation.  Walker is a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council.

VIP Breakfast

Robert Graham, founder of Namaste Direct, was a speaker at a VIP breakfast in April at the Orfalea College of Business.  Graham is a former CPA who has turned his time, energy and money into helping others by linking donors in the US to first-time microcredit borrowers in Central America.  Two student attendees of the breakfast were Troy Monken (Accounting/Finance) and Mara Correa (Marketing).
