Cynthia CooperCynthia Cooper was the honored guest of the Orfalea College of Business Distinguished Speaker Series on Friday, January 27. Co-sponsored by Andre, Morris & Buttery; Barbich, Longcrier, Hooper & King; and the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce, Ms. Cooper gave a presentation to a standing-room only audience at the Performing Arts Center on the Cal Poly campus.

Undergraduate Marketing Students Awarded First Place

Honda Marketing GroupA team of 7 Cal Poly undergraduate marketing students were awarded first place in a research program competition sponsored by EdVenture Partners, Honda North America, and Honda's ad agency, RPA. The Cal Poly team shared first place honors with a team of graduate students from San Diego State University. Ten California schools participated in the competition.

Google groupThe OCOB Student Ambassadors were treated to a tour of Google in Sunnyvale, with lunch hosted by Charles Chin (Marketing '01). Several Cal Poly alumni dropped by to share tips on starting a career with Google.

Ebay groupWalter Duflock (Accounting ’89) hosted the OCOB Ambassadors on a tour of ebay in January. Alumni Anne Stenseth (Accounting '98), Sandy Jamison , and Joy Osborne (CLA '93) joined the Ambassadors to discuss their various career paths and to share tips on careers with firms in the Silicon Valley.

Mayor of San Luis Obispo Talks to Student Business Council

Dave RomeroSan Luis Obispo Mayor Dave Romero spoke to the members of the Student Business Council about his 8 years as a member of the City Council and 3 years as Mayor. Prior to his involvement with the Council, Romero worked for the City of SLO as a City Engineer for over 40 years.

BUS 404 Students Present on Global Impacts

Business 404 lectureThe Business 404 (Global Impacts on Business) written reports involved determining the viability of bringing a particular product or service into a particular country. The groups were required to research a wide-array of information under such areas as Politics, Legal Requirements, Economics and Cultural/Social/Ethical issues. Pictured is James Knauf, whose group presentation focused on the economic, political, legal, and political implications in bringing an Apple Retail Store to Singapore.
