Council meeting. Please mark your calendars.
Dean Dave Christy Addresses SLO Chamber
OCOB Dean Dave Christy recently addressed the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce. As part of his comments to the Chamber, Christy shared his vision for the future of not only the Orfalea College of Business, but also the nation and the globe. During his remarks Christy said, "Through my experience in international affairs, there can be no doubt that the future of worldwide business depends on the quality of education that is delivered to university students. The top level of education required for the next century often begins at Cal Poly, a nationally recognized knowledge resource where 'learn by doing' is the mantra for preparedness and excellence is a universally shared value among the college's outstanding faculty."
PeopleSoft USA gift of $2.6 million!
Dr. Barry Floyd (IS) facilitated a gift of software from PeopleSoft USA to aid in instruction at the OCOB. A team of IS faculty is committed to integrating this software into various aspects of our curriculum. A fund from the Orfalea Endowment has been established to ensure that faculty and selected students will have access to PeopleSoft training programs. This gift complements a prior gift from the Oracle Corporation of $228,106.
Hoods Gift Marketing
Richard
Hood, founder and vice president of Maxim
Integrated Products, Inc., and his wife Julie, have
established a professional development endowment for Marketing faculty.
The first recipient of the fellowship is Assistant
Professor Brian Tietje, who joined the college in fall
of 1999. The endowment enhances faculty
development opportunities and the quality of education offered to our
students. Richard and Julie are the parents of Rebecca Hood (Marketing ‘01).
Their gift has had an immediate impact on our faculty and students, and
illustrates the power of endowed funding to our programs.
OCOB Raises Record Support for Cal Poly Students
Bolstered by a significant gift from PeopleSoft, Inc. on December 27, 2004, Cal Poly’s OCOB Centennial Campaign raised over $29 million to support students, faculty and programs. Our Centennial Campaign provided an opportunity to tell our story, and to heighten the awareness among our friends of the need for private support for public higher education. It was also a great opportunity to reconnect with many alumni, and to create increased interest in the college, our students, and our faculty. Without the support of our loyal alumni, parents of students, and friends, the educational experience of our students could not be what it is today. Our challenge is to maintain the momentum that has been established, and to build the school that each of us envisions.
