In order to return to Cal Poly, the following requirements must be met:
- At least one calendar year must elapse after you leave Cal Poly.
- You must complete, at another college or university, at least 33 quarter units or 22 semester units of Cal Poly degree applicable courses (major and/or support courses as it appears on your major curriculum sheet).
- A minimum of a 3.0 grade point average is required in the above course work, as well as any additional courses that you complete. All grades must be a "C" or higher the first time the course is taken (No W's, I's, NC's, U's, etc.).
- All course work taken must be approved in advance by an academic advisor in the College of Business Advising center (03-100). Completion of the form on the reverse side of this sheet including advisor's signature constitutes approval.
- All lower division general education, support and major courses must be completed prior to returning to Cal Poly.
- Dismissed students are not allowed to participate in the Cal Poly Continuing Education program.
- For students who achieve a minimum grade point average of 3.5 in requirement #3, then: Requirement #1 and #5 are waived, Requirement #2: same except change units to 16 quarter units or 12 semester units respectively.
If you are not ready to continue with college and meet these terms, please wait until you are.
You will need to reapply to Cal Poly during the quarter that you anticipate meeting the above conditions. Please be aware of admission deadlines for returning students. The Cal Poly Admissions website is http://www.ess.calpoly.edu/_admiss/. If you have work-in-progress still outstanding, you will not be admitted until the final grades are submitted to the Admissions Office. When you reapply to Cal Poly, you will be classified as a former student and will be granted admission if you meet these terms. I hope things work out for you in the coming year.
If you do not currently have 33 lower division quarter units outstanding that can be completed at a community college, you should plan to attend a four-year university so you can complete your remaining lower-division course work in addition to some of your upper division major and/or support course work to meet the above unit requirement. If you currently only have upper division course work remaining, you may consider transferring your Cal Poly course work to another university and graduating from that university. Because the University requires that 30 of your last 40 units be completed in residence, you may not find it feasible to complete your degree at Cal Poly in a timely manner.
