The United States Cultural Pluralism Requirement (USCP) is intended to enhance a student's general knowledge of cultural, racial and gender issues and problems confronting contemporary U.S. society. Beginning with students under the 1994 - 1997 Catalog, it has been required that all Cal Poly students satisfy this requirement in a hope that it would bring:
- Greater multicultural perspective to all Cal Poly students
- Foster greater understanding of cultural and ethnic differences in the United States and in relation to a wider world
- Help students appreciate differing cultural values and assumptions and the "relativity of otherness"
- Nourish tolerance for and enjoyment of cultural diversity
- Encourage American commonalities and continuities amidst diversity
Students are required to complete one USCP course during their Cal Poly career. Check the current course listing for approved USCP classes.
