Visiting Professor Axel Leijonhufvud

Axel Leijonhufvud is a Swedish economist, who is affiliated with the University of Trento in Italy, as well as being a professor emeritus at UCLA. Axel received his bachelor’s degree at the University of Lund, and then went on to earn his MA in economics from the University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D. in economics from Northwestern University. In 1983, Leijonhufvud was awarded an honoris causa doctoral degree by the University in Lund. In 1991, he founded UCLA’s Center for Computable Economics and remained its director until 1997.

He published a noteworthy book entitled On Keynesian Economics and the Economics of Keynes in 1968. In 2006, the UCLA economics department celebrated Axel Leijonhufvud’s contributions to economics and their department by hosting a conference in his honor.

Axle Leijonhufvud is currently a Cal Poly research scholar and a guest economics researcher for the Orfalea College of Business.
